Today we went to port Mercedes at 6:00 am.  They have fish auctions here.  You have to whisper the price to the fish auctioneer (per kg) and if you are the highest bidder you can get the fish.  We saw lots of different types of fish, shrimps, pusit (squid) and even sharks.  There are several grills near by where people grill their fresh fish for breakfast.   There are also fish butchers near by that will make fillets out of your fish with a machete and a hammer.  If you go here remember to wear covered shoes because the ground is wet and fishy.

Trip to Manpurong.  We first went to take a dip in the crystal clear river.  Then we had a bbq on the shoreline.  The grilled pork chops were so sarap!  We also drank fresh buko juice.  Then we stopped by the piggery.  The piggery began as just a hobby for Dr. Bong (the man petting the pig), but eventually it grew into a business.  Dr. Bong has many projects.   There were many pigs and some very large pigs.  The pigs were for general consumption aka bacon.  This reminds me, I have not had bacon since I came to the Philippines.

HALO HALO!! also one of my favorites. Halo halo means mix mix in Tagalog. It is very delicious but they don’t usually sell it at night so I was very surprised when they had it at Chowking. Chowking is like a Chinese fast food chain restaurant.  They also have decent fried chicken.

Merienda Time

Merienda means snack in Tagalog.  We get two meriendas a day! We have a morning merienda at 10 am and and an afternoon merienda at 3 pm.  For one of our morning meriendas we got burgers with cheesy cream sauce and fries.  I am going to get fat.
